Cintas to close east-side Indianapolis facility, cut 69 jobs

Cintas Corp. plans to close a east-side Indianapolis facility by the end of next month, eliminating 69 jobs.

The Cincinnati-based company, which supplies work uniforms, safety items, floor mats and other workplace products, filed a mass layoff notice Friday with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Cintas said it expects to close the rental facility at 9145 E. 33rd St., just east of Post Road, by the end of July.

“Over the course of the next two months, the company expects to terminate its workforce at the address as a result of the permanent closure of the facility,” Cintas wrote in its letter to the state.

Cintas said positions to be eliminated include nearly 20 sales representatives and managers, as well as numerous workers who load, unload, sort, pack and repair rental products.

The facility that Cintas is closing is a former G&K Services Inc. site less than a mile east of another Cintas facility at 9949 Park Davis Drive.

Cintas acquired Minnesota-based G&K in March for $2.2 billion, including acquired net debt. G&K now operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cintas.

In an announcement made when the deal closed, Cintas said it expected to realize “annual synergies in the range of $130 million to $140 million” by the fourth full year post-acquisition.

IBJ contacted Cintas Friday afternoon, but the company did not immediately respond with additional details.

According to its website, Cintas has four locations in different parts of Indianapolis, plus one facility each in the Indiana communities of Columbus and Frankfort. The company has more than 400 facilities total in North America.
